Dr 22/9 We Have Lived And Loved Together

The titlepage carries this "Extract of a Letter from the Honble. Mrs. N__":

'In addition, the young and lovely Emily D__ has cast a perfect spell of enchantment over our circle by her exquisite singing in a new ballad, the words and melody of which I enclose you. She is obstinately silent as to the author; but, as I have before told who is here, you may easily guess. The music is from a late publication of the popular Henry Herz, and is one of the most striking and delightful strains that has been heard since Moore's "Oft in the stilly night." The Countess of B__ , who is with us, has made one of her clever pencil sketches of our vair vocalist, which I send you in to-night's Treasury dispatch; and immediately you receive it, I have to entreat you will forthwith find a publisher (Colburn, I believe, does not print music, but you can ask him), and let us have copies, or we shall be absolutely changed to copyists, for this is, I think, the thirtieth that has been made within these two days.  __ Castle, October, 1833'
